She was born in Madrid, the daughter of Gillian (Watling) and Gonzalo Ceballos Sáenz de Cenzano. Her father was Spanish, from Cádiz, Andalusia, and her mother was English. Her stage surname is derived from her mother.

Leonor has two children with her partner, Uruguayan musician, actor, and doctor Jorge Drexler.

Leonor’s paternal grandfather was Gonzalo Ceballos y Fernández de Córdoba (the son of Luis Ceballos Medrano and María de los Dolores Fernández de Córdoba y Quesada). Luis was the son of Pedro Ceballos and Felisa Medrano. Dolores was the daughter of Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba y Alvarez de las Asturias-Bohórquez and Matilde María del Pilar Quesada y Bayo.
