Johnny Reed McKinzie Jr., known by his stage name Jay Rock, is an American rapper from Watts, California. Rock signed with independent label Top Dawg Entertainment in 2005. In 2007, with TDE, Rock signed a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records then Asylum Records, but the merger took place and Rock finally left the label soon after. He then signed with Tech N9ne's Strange Music, as part of a joint recording deal. In addition to his solo career, Rock is also known as a member of hip hop supergroup Black Hippy, alongside fellow West Bank rappers and fellow TDEs Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul. In 2019, Jay Rock received a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance for "King's Dead". Since 2006, Rock has released several mixtapes and was first known for their first commercial single in 2008, "All My Life".

He is best known as a member of the Black Hippy supergroup. 90059, his second album, was released in 2015.
